Collection of samples from type localities for European Tertiary regional stages (unprocessed raw materials):

During the early 1960ies Hans Schaub and members of the NMB collected representative lithological materials from classical sites for European Tertiary regional stages. The indicated lists give an overview of the unprocessed samples held at the Natural History Museum Basel for reference purposes. Geological and micropaleontological comments to localities and formations are given in the excursions guide from Drooger et al., 1961).

Please note, that several of the regional stage names, namely those from Belgium, that are indicated on the sample bags, are no longer in use by the stratigraphic community (see De Geyter et al., 2006).
