About Otto Renz (1906-1992)

Type- and reference collections of O. Renz:

Reference collection to Renz, O. (1936a). Stratigraphische und mikropalaeontologische Untersuchung der Scaglia (Obere Kreide-Tertiär) im zentralen Appennin. Eclogae geol. Helv. 29(1):1-149.

This is an extended collection of thin sections, deposited in 11 boxes numbered from 1 through 11.

New foraminiferal species:
Globotruncana appenninica Renz (1936)

Notes:
1.) See also the contribution of Reichel, M. (1936) in the same volume: Anhang V: Bemerkungen über einige von O. Renz im zentralen Appennin gesammelten Foraminiferen. Eclogae geol. Helv. 29(1):136-149.

2.) There exists also an Italian version of Renz, O. (1936a), which was published in 1951, see literature list under Renz, O. (1951).

3.) In a publication about Danian globigerinids from Faxe (Danmark) and from the K/T boundary in the Scaglia of the Apennine Manfred Reichel (1952) gives reference to the collection of O. Renz (1936a).

Reference collection and Documentation to Renz, O. and Luterbacher, H.P. (1965a). Die Mittlere Kreide von La Vraconne bei Ste-Croix (Kt. Waadt). Bull. Ver. Schweiz. Petrol.-Geol. u. Ing., vol. 31, No. 81, April 1965, pp. 76-101.

Collection includes 4 trays with Fema-cells from the La Vraconne type section with picked foraminifers and assemblage slides. Sample numbers are L1 through L68, and GG215, GG218, GG224, GG230, GG235, GG238, GG249, GG251, GG259, GG266.

There is 1 further tray containing 26 Fema-cells with isolated foraminifers described in the paper (donation 24.2.2016) and a few thin sections of massive Urgonian Limestones from Peter Jung (Labelled PJ1263 = NMB Fundort No. 13842). The ammonites listed in Renz & Luterbacher (1965a) of the Vraconnien are deposited in the Jurakeller with the ammonites of the Cretaceous.

Alongside is a full documentation of the Vraconne Reference Profile.

Note:
This documentation comprises the original summary Vraconne profile, where the complete set of samples that were taken, is indicated. Note that in the published version only a selection number of samples is figured.

Other materials include handdrawings of microfossils and description, that refer to the profile numbers. Additional documents are photographs (negatives) of the landscape and of microfossils from H.P. Luterbacher, and handdrawn geological maps.

Raw materials (unprocessed bulk sediments collected in 1964) from this study (Albian through Cenomanian) are held at the Natural History Museum Basel for reference purposes (GG-series).
