Collections of Marie de Cizancourt

The collections of Mme. Marie de Cizancourt contain her types of larger foraminifera from the Caribbean region, particularly those of Barbados, Cuba and Venezuela. Mexico is also represented by the types of R.W. Barker. Other types are to be found in the collections from Morocco, Afghanistan and France. Additional foraminiferals are available from Syria, the Middle East, Madagascar, Hungary, Turkey, and England, as well as from Haiti, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Florida.
A duplicate collection of the smaller foraminifera of the collection Hermann (Strassburg, Alsace) was presented by Dr. H. de Cizancourt.

Collection of diverse orbitolines (Barremian): Washed residues, isolated forms. Provenance: Couches à Orbitolina, Gorge du Nart, route de Malleval (Isère), Côte de Sassenage (Isère). [K3 / C18 / 5 / 176 ].

Deposited are also various reprints [diverse countries, but without collection] to De Cicancourt (1925, 1928, 1938b, 1948d, 1954), and De Cizancourt and Cuvillier (1954).

Colln. Herrmann: This is a duplicate taxonomic collection of Jurassic and Tertiary smaller benthic foraminifera (in Fema-cells numbered from 1 through 172) from various provenances (Hamm/Westfahlen; Paris; Lafugy; Sulz u. Wald; etc.). A hand-written list with species determinations is deposited alongside.
Unfortunately, no furter information about sampling locations or stratigraphic positions or core-depths are indicated so far. August Herrmann (sometimes also cited as Hermann) was engineer and and director of the former petroleum refinery in Sulz unter Wald (today Soultz-sous-forêt, F) in Alsace at the beginning of the 20th century, when petroleum was exploited from the Pechelbronn beds.

August Herrmann investigated Tertiary foraminifera from the Pechelbronn area and elsewhere in the lower Alsass region. He described several benthic foraminiferal species and is author of several micropaleontological articles in the Mitteilungen der Geologischen Landesanstalt Elsass-Lothringen (e.g. from 1898, 1903 amd 1916). A xerox copy to Hermann, A. (1916) is deposited with the collection.

Please note, that the above mentioned duplicate collection of Herrmann is not directly or only partially related to his publications, however, the collection is of historical interest in connection with the development of petroleum exploration and exploitation in the Alsace area during the 1920ies.

Types and originals to the publications of Hermann were at the time deposited at the "Geologische Landesanstalt Strassburg im Elsass" (now referred to as "Carte Géologique d'Alsace-Lorraine"). Today, the collection is curated at the Musée de Minéralogie, which belongs to the Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre of the University of Strasbourg (F).
