Collections of Yannick Mary

Reference collection to the PhD thesis of Mary, Y. (2013). Morphologic, biogeographic and ontogenetic investigation of Mid-Pliocene menardellids (planktonic foraminifera). Inauguraldissertation Universität Basel, 181 p., to Mary, Y. and Knappertsbusch, M. (2013). Morphological variability of menardiform globorotalids in the Atlantic Ocean during Mid-Pliocene. Marine Micropaleontology, vol. 101, May 2013, pp. 180-193, and to Mary, Y. and Knappertsbusch, M. (2015).Worldwide morphological variability in Mid-Pliocene menardellid globorotalids. This is a collection of washed residues, picked and mounted menardiform specimens to multicellular slides (sample and specimen coding scheme included), that were measured, and SEM preparations. A copy of the PhD thesis is deposited with the collection. Investigated materials represent a time-slice at 3.2 Ma (Middle Pliocene) and include DSDP Sites 502A, 503A, 532A, ODP Sites 659A, 661A, 667A, 707A, 716B, 721B, 728A, 757B, 758A, 763A, 806B, 807A, 823B, 834A, 835B, 846B, 852B, 925B, 999A, 1006A, 1082A, 1143A, 1148A, 1236A, 1238A, 1241A. List of 3.2 Ma time-slice samples (pdf).

Hand written comments from M. Knappertsbusch about sample selection and age determinations of the 3.2 Ma time-slice are deposited alonside the collection.

Trays#1 through 10: Processed multicellular slides, from where menardellids were imaged with AMOR (application of size-class protocol described in chapters 3 and 4 of thesis).

Tray #11: Sample ODP 184-1146B-25-3, 25-27cm (South China Sea): Processed and picked, but not included in further morphometric analysis.

Trays #12 through 13: Initial experimental slides, that were used for evaluation of morphometric methods (chapter 3 of thesis): No size fractionation was applied to this material.

Tray #14: Experimental slides: This material remained after microdissolution experiments on 2 slides per size fraction per sample (see chapter 5 of thesis).

Washed residues (various size fractions) from which the multicellular slides and SEM preparations were made.

One box containing 18 SEM preparations used for ontogenetic studies in chapter 5 (refer to numbering scheme for identification of individual SEM stubs in box).

Digital images, data measurements, software, and AutoIt scripts to generate the data are electronically archived (as by 7th February 2014) at the NMB (Archiv- und Medienserver) under 05-WISSENSCHAFTEN-ARCHIV/MIKROPALAEONTOLOGIE/DISS_MARY_2013

The CD-ROM included with the printed copy of the thesis contains AutoIt 3 scripts to AMOR 3.17 written and used by Yannick Mary.
